How it works

Pay on a deal is the commission percent of front gross plus the commission percent of back gross. If that comes to less than the minimum, the minimum is paid instead. The month is that amount times the deals, plus the bonus when the deals reach the bonus level.

This models one simple plan shape. Real plans add tiers, chargebacks, spiffs and pack deductions, so use this to compare shapes, not to settle a pay dispute.

For managers

Try the same deal at two different percentages and two different minimums. A high mini pays out on deals that earned the store little. A low one may leave a salesperson with little reason to work the small deals that still add to the month.

For salespeople

Look at the "if every month matched" line, then ask what happens in a slow month. A plan that only pays well above a bonus level is a different offer from one that pays steadily.
